Menotropin

  • CAS Number: 61489-71-2

Menotropin (human menopausal gonadotropin, hMG ) is a drug used to treat fertility problems in women. It is obtained from human urine, and contains the two gonadotropins LH and FSH.

An analysis of the relevant studies showed that the in - vitro fertilization ( IVF) with human menopausal gonadotropin ( hMG ) result in higher live birth rates than the treatments with recombinant follicle stimulating hormone ( rFSH ). In these studies, the majority of the treatment cycle was performed with hMG. The pooled analysis of two large randomized controlled trials showed that hMG leads to significantly higher pregnancy rates than rFSH in IVF cycles.

Menotropin leads to around 20% of women treated for multiple pregnancies.
