Mental Ray

Mental Ray (proper spelling: mental ray ) is a renderer developed by mental images GmbH and promoted by Autodesk and Dassault Systèmes and sold. The company was founded in Berlin in 1986 and was acquired by Nvidia in 2007.

The renderer is among others in the 3D packages Maya, 3ds Max, Softimage integrated and allows to calculate there naturalistic- realistic but also symbolizes - unrealistic scenes like comics. In the film industry, he is next to a RenderMan renderer you use most. Mental Ray supported early technologies such as global illumination ( global illumination ) and Final Gather.
