Mentana

Mentana is a municipality in the province of Rome in the Italian region Latium, 21,169 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012). It is located 29 km northeast of Rome.

Mentana is located on Via Nomentana, which is the Latin name of the city, Nomentum named.

The districts Tor Lupara di Mentana and Santa Lucia di Mentana were spun on 15 October 2001 in the new community Fonte Nuova.

Policy

Guido Tabanella ( center-right coalition ) was elected Mayor for the second time in June 2006. His center-right alliance also with 12 of 20 seats, the majority in the City Council.

History

On November 3, 1867 troops of the Papal States defeated by General Hermann Chancellor and French auxiliary troops under General Balthazar de Polhès in and around Mentana the volunteer army of Giuseppe Garibaldi, the conquer the Papal States and wanted to incorporate into the new, united Italy.
