Mentos

Mentos is a chewy candy brand, which was originally conceived by the brothers Michael and Pierre van Melle in 1932 for a peppermint and caramel candy. From the 1950s to the company Van Melle Mentos in Rotterdam, Netherlands produced. From the 1960s, Mentos was sold in roll form existing today. Currently, the brand belongs since the merger of Perfetti Van Melle and in 2001 for confectionery company Perfetti Van Melle. Mentos is marketed with the tagline " The Fresh Maker" world. Over 2 billion rolls are sold every year in more than 100 countries.

The chewy candies are round in shape and consist of a slightly hard exterior and a soft, tough inside. Typically they are sold in a 1.9 cm wide and 9.5 cm high roller with 14 dragees. The weight is usually then 37.5 g

In Germany Mentos sold by the CFP Brands confectionery Handels GmbH & Co. KG, based in Bonn. CFP Brands is a joint venture of Perfetti Van Melle and Lofthouse of Fleetwood ( Fisherman's Friend ).

Varieties

Mentos is sold in different flavors. These include mint, orange, strawberry and lemon worldwide. However, she first appeared as a sweet licorice that are still sold in the Netherlands.

New flavors are tested first in Europe and then marketed to worldwide success.

Other flavors that are not sold worldwide, include green apple, cinnamon, fruit blend, grape, wintergreen, raisin, grapefruit, plum, yogurt, pineapple, red apple, wild fruit mix, melon, cola, and currant. In the Netherlands also Mentos Strong, mango orange and Air Action Mentos are sold. 1989, the chocolate flavor was sold, which was, however, reinstated the same year. In the Philippines, the variety Dalandan Fresh is marketed in the U.S. there are also Mentos Sours in apple, watermelon and lemon. In Germany Energy Mentos are sold, at which a role equivalent to about two cups of coffee. Fresh cola sold in New Zealand, Australia, Germany, Portugal, Spain and the UK.

The Mentos gum Chewing gum is sold since 2005 in various flavors and packaging formats in Europe and beyond, now also in Australia, China, Canada, Brazil, Turkey, the Philippines and the United States. In Germany, Mentos chewing gum since 2007 in trade.

Since August 2005, the Netherlands has sugar-free Mentos in versions of mint, licorice and fruit.

Special versions such as the Mini Mentos and Mentos KIDZ were sold in the Netherlands. Throughout Latin America and the version Mentos Teens is available.

Mentos and Coke

Are you Mentos into a bottle containing a carbonated liquid, sprayed a fountain of liquid from the bottle. This purely physical phenomenon is due to the microscopically rough surface of the candy. There, the carbon dioxide ( CO2) can accumulate, collect larger bubbles dissolve, ascend, releasing more CO2. Due to the rapid rate at which this occurs, liquid is entrained into said thin bottle neck. Diet Coke is especially good because more CO2 can be dissolved in the liquid by the lack of sugar.
