Documents

Mentuhotep I ( actually Mentuhotepaa, Montuhotep the Elder) is been established on any contemporary monument with security and it is therefore even been suggested that this is a fictitious ancestors of the 11th dynasty.

On a statue from the sanctuary of Heqaib on Elephantine, whose upper part is missing today, he is a successor called ( jt - nTr.w ) father of the gods. With the gods later kings are meant; probably his two immediate successors Antef I and II Antef that are considered by some researchers due to this inscription as his sons. Especially this title could indicate that Mentuhotep I. but was not a pharaoh. One such title was usually done only by non- royal ancestors.

Possible origin

After the king panel of Karnak Mentuhotep was the successor of a Theban prince named Antef I. policy. This king panel is not in chronological order, so that this can only be interpreted as an indication.

His birth name is translated "Month is satisfied," and his nickname on the statue in Elephantine " meri setjed nebet Abu 'indicates that he was loved by the " Lady of Abu " ( Elephantine ). Since this statue was found at Elephantine, where this goddess was worshiped, like this addition have been worn only here. His throne name is unknown. However, this applies also for the next three kings of the 11th Dynasty ( Antef I-III; Beckerath, 1999). It therefore appears to be possible that he might never assumed a. His Horus name ancestor, was certainly given him posthumously.
