Menzbier's marmot

Menzbiers marmot ( Marmota menzbieri )

Menzbiers marmot ( Marmota menzbieri ) is a species of the family of squirrels. The distribution area is unusually small and includes only the west of the Tianshan. It is named after the Russian zoologists Mikhail Alexandrovich Menzbier.

Menzbiers marmot is the smallest marble species with a body length of 40 to 45 inches and an average body weight of 2.5 kg. It is because of its small size, its characteristic coat color, its peculiar call, which differs from that of the other marmots as well as the significantly different built penis bone ( he is almost straight and has no widening at the top on ) classified as a separate type.

The habitats of this type have very similar characteristics. The animals settle on steep slopes that have a dense and well-trained turf. The Marmot uses preferably slopes, which in addition to early snow-free areas as well as areas with long-lasting snow cover. This slowly defrosting during the summer half-year surfaces emit sufficient moisture so that constantly grow new plants with young, succulent shoots, which prefer these marmots as food.
