Meopta

The group Meopta is Czech - American manufacturer of optical products such as binoculars and rifle scopes. To Meopta Meopta - optika include s.r.o. based in Přerov and Meopta USA Inc. in Hauppauge. In the Czech parent plant 2,500 employees who produce 50-60,000 80-100,000 prisms and lenses a month to work. 70 % of the production is industrial optics for example projectors or surveying, 20 % make civilian rifle scopes and 10% of military optics.

History

The company was founded in 1933 as Optikotechna of Alois Beneš and Dr. Mazurek also made cameras ( Meopta Flexaret ), cine projectors and stereo cameras for years. Mazurek constructed the first magnifying lens manufactured in Czechoslovakia ( tele). During the German occupation Optikotechna produced from 1939 to 1945 direction finding equipment, rangefinders, periscopes, double Binoculars and riflescopes for the German military.

1946, the company was nationalized and renamed Meopta. Until the 1970s, the company became one of the most important manufacturers of enlargers and projectors (eg Meo 5X). Production of photo enlarger ( Axomat, Opemus, Magnifax ) is still running. The photo enlarger provide an inexpensive alternative to the enhancers of other manufacturers such as Kaiser and Dunco dar.

1971 large parts of the production were changed in favor of military optics for the countries of the Warsaw Pact. This proportion was three-quarters of total sales. From 1988 the production of riflescopes was resumed and the military share of the production volume dropped significantly. In 1990, the division of the state-owned company started in several public subsidiaries, military production was all set. In 1992 the company was privatized and sold to Paul Rausnitz.
