Mera in Chiavenna

The Mera ( Maira in Switzerland ) is a 50 kilometers long river in Switzerland and Italy. It flows through the valley Bergell.

The Maira formed from several mountain streams that originate on the Piz Duan and on Septimerpass in the canton of Grisons. In Casaccia joins from the left, the Orlegna. First village on the river is Vicosoprano where the Albigna Reservoir entfliessende Albigna opens. Then the Maira flows through Stampa. At the next village Bondo the Bondasca opens. After the river has crossed the border at Castasegna, it bears the name Mera. In Piuro the Acqua Freggia, which has an impressive waterfall flows. Below Chiavenna, the largest town on the river, flows from the right Liro, shortly after the Crezza and boccia. The Mera flows through Lake Mezzola and ends at Gera Lario in Lake Como.
