Mercatello sul Metauro

Mercatello sul Metauro ( in Gallo marche Saxon dialect: Mercatel ) is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 1434 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Pesaro and Urbino in the Marche region. The community is located about 54 kilometers south-west of Pesaro and about 25 km west- southwest of Urbino on Metaurus, belongs to the Comunità montana Alto e Medio Metaurus and directly borders the provinces of Arezzo ( Tuscany) and Perugia (Umbria ).

History

The Umbrians settled in the area from the late Bronze Age. The Augustan sources report from the towns ( municipalities ) Tiphernum Metaurense and Tiphernum Tiberinum.
