Mercedes -Benz SLK (1996-2000)

The Mercedes -Benz R 170 is a two-seater roadster Mercedes- Benz SLK from the series, which was produced by the autumn of 1996 until early 2004. It was the first convertible long, which was equipped with a fixed folding steel roof. This folding steel roof, also retractable hardtop or Vario roof called, disappears completely and automatically in the trunk of the vehicle.

Since it is made of steel, it combines the advantages of a hardtop and on the other hand offers the flexibility of a folding top. This is the SLK Roadster to both as well as the Coupé. The Vario roof collapsed in the model R 170 within 25 seconds from the trunk. Due to this technique, the boot capacity decreased with an open roof of 348 to 145 liters. Manufacturer of the hard top is the company Car Top Systems.

A total of 311 222 pcs of R 170 were built, making it the best-selling roadster of Germany and the Mazda MX -5 replaced in the sales statistics.
