Mercedes Bunz

Mercedes Bunz ( born November 16, 1971 in Magdeburg ) is a German cultural studies scholar and journalist.

Life

After graduating from the Celtis -Gymnasium in Schweinfurt in 1991 Bunz studied philosophy and art history at the Free University of Berlin. In 1997 she founded together with Sascha Kösch, Riley Reinhold and Benjamin Weiss Berlin's music and culture magazine De: Bug. 1999 - 2001 she was co-editor and the editor in chief.

In 2005 she got a scholarship by the Heinrich Böll Foundation at the Bauhaus University Weimar with Joseph Vogl after successful defense of a thesis on the history of the Internet from the 1950s to the 1980s, which was published in 2008 as a book, for Dr. phil. doctorate.

After working for a time as a freelance journalist, she was awarded in 2006 a post- doctoral position as a Lecturer at the University of Bielefeld. In the same year she was editor in chief of the Berlin city magazine Zitty before they took over the management of the online editors of the Tagesspiegel in 2007.

In 2009 she moved to the London Guardian, where she wrote media and technology on the development of online journalism and social networks in the department until early 2011.

In 2010, Bunz was awarded the Prize of the German journalists - journalists Association. Bunz worked inter alia for the online magazines telepolis and Carta. She lives and works at present (2011 ), primarily in London and reported for DRadio knowledge and, since January 2013 Bayern 2 of the development in the media sector.
