Mercer County (Illinois)
The Mercer County is a county located in the U.S. state of Illinois. In 2010, the County had 16,434 inhabitants and a population density of 11.5 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Aledo.
Geography
The County is located in northeastern Illinois on the Mississippi River, which forms the border with Iowa. It has an area of 1453 square kilometers, of which 20 square kilometers are water surface. At the Mercer County borders the following Nachbarcountys:
History
The Mercer County was on January 13, 1825 as a free designated - formed territory - but in reality populated by Indians. It was named for Hugh Mercer (1726-1777), a general in the Continental Army, who fell at the Battle of Princeton.

According to the census in 2010 lived in Mercer County 16,434 people in 6,714 households. The population density was 11.5 inhabitants per square kilometer. In the 6,714 households lived statistically 2.40 per person.
The racial the population was composed of 98.3 percent white, 0.3 percent African American, 0.1 percent Native American, 0.3 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 0.7 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity, 1.9 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
22.6 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 59.1 percent were between 18 and 64 and 18.3 percent were 65 years or older. 50.6 percent of the population was female.
The median income for a household was $ 54,533. The per capita income was $ 25,081. 9.4 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.

The Mercer County is divided into 15 townships:
