Mercer County (Kentucky)

Mercer County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Harrodsburg, which was after James Harrod, a co-founder of the city, named. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located just north-east of the geographic center of Kentucky and has an area of 656 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Anderson County, Woodford County, Jessamine County, Garrard County, Boyle County and Washington County.

History

Mercer County was formed on October 17, 1785 from parts of Lincoln County. It was named for General Hugh Mercer, who had fallen during the American Revolutionary War at the Battle of Princeton.
