Merchtem is a Belgian municipality located in the Flemish region. It is located in the province of Flemish Brabant and belongs to the district of Halle- Vilvoorde. The municipality consists of the villages Brussegem, Hamme and Merchtem.
Location
Merchtem located 12 kilometers southeast of Dendermonde, 14 km east of Aalst, 15 km north- west of Brussels, 20 km southwest of Mechelen and 36 km east-southeast of Ghent. The next highway exits are located in Meise on the A12, Wemmel at the Brussels beltway and in the south near Ternat to the A10 / E40 Merchtem has a railway station on the branch line Lokeren - Dendermonde - Merchtem - Brussels. In Dendermonde, Mechelen and Aalst, there are other nahegelegenene regional stations and in Brussels, Ghent and Antwerp railway stations of national importance.
