Mercurio Peruano

Content

This magazine employed in addition to the philosophy with topics such as geography, history, economy and the natural sciences, in which case a special attention was given to the medicine. The desired effect was to impart education, but not only through a wide variety of knowledge about Peru itself, but by the general enthusiasm of the Peruvians for the natural sciences and the modern scientific work. So often research results and new inventions were presented and described their putative benefits for Peru. Unlike other scientific associations, the " Sociedad " but not turned against the Catholic Church, but sat down for an "enlightened Catholicism " one, but which was probably more Catholic than enlightened during the French Revolution. The articles, which were published in the " Mercurio Peruano ", are still an important source for scientists who deal with the pre-Columbian cultures. In addition, contributions on the state of education, poverty and the role and position of women or black slaves in Peru in the 18th century find.

An important supporter and author of the " Mercurio Peruano " was Toribio Rodríguez de Mendoza.
