Mercury Marquis

The Mercury Marquis was a 1966-1985 built by the U.S., to the Ford company owned automotive manufacturer Mercury model of local full-size class and ( from 1982) of the American middle class.

  • In the Model 1967 /68 Marquis was the luxury coupe flagship model of the brand;
  • From 1968 to 1982 designated Marquis variants of Mercury fullsize model program;
  • From 1982 to 1986 carried a rear-wheel -driven midsize sedan the name Marquis.

In the fall of 1966 as the flagship of the Mercury led a Marquis, a two-door hardtop coupe with standard vinyl roof and extensive features, powered by a 6,6 - or seven-liter V8. For the model year 1969 a new generation of large Mercury appeared; at the same time the Marquis program was expanded to include two sedans, a convertible and a Colony Park station wagon called. The Marquis series represented the top series of the brand Mercury, under its ranked the Mercury Monterey, the Monterey Custom and the sports version Marauder. The base engine in the Marquis was now 7 liters. From autumn 1972, the large Ford and Mercury models had on the natural wheel base new, 5 inches shorter bodies. At Mercury, there was next to the Monterey continue Marquis and Grand Marquis as a coupe, sedan and Colony Park station wagon with a seven- liter or 7.5 -liter V8. For the model year 1979 Mercury launched a smaller and lighter Marquis, the sister model of the co- featured Ford LTD, from which the Mercury differed only in details. In the program were still coupe, sedan and wagon under the names Marquis, Marquis Brougham and Grand Marquis. The drive now served V8 engines of 4.9 or 5.8 liter engine, a three speed automatic transmission was standard, as always. 1981 formed a smaller 4.2-liter V8, the base engine, the two larger eight-cylinder remained in the offer. 1982 accounted for the vent dummies on the front fenders; the 5.8 -liter was only being available in the special police versions.

The great Mercury was continued from model year 1983 virtually unchanged under the name Grand Marquis. From 1978 to 1982 created 333 923 pieces.

In Venezuela, however, the model of the Consorcio Grupo 1390 SA was mounted on behalf of Fords. There, the model was sold as the Ford Conquistador.

In the fall of 1982 Mercury took a new turn smaller Marquis with rear-wheel drive in the production, the parallel model of the new Ford LTD, which built on the Fox platform of the Ford Fairmont.

1986 was the Marquis of production by 307 950 copies; Successor to the Marquis was the Mercury Sable.
