Meretseger (queen)

Meretseger is probably a fictitious ancient Egyptian queen and wife of Senusret III. , Who ruled in the 12th Dynasty.

Meretseger was entitled " Great Royal Wife" and her name was written in a cartouche. Both are occupied for queens until the following 13th Dynasty. Meretseger other hand, appears only in sources of the New Kingdom, together with Sesostris III. and is not used on contemporary monuments. Sesostris III. was worshiped as God in the New Kingdom, especially in Nubia, it was assumed that that one beistellte him a divine wife.

Meretseger is also the name of the local goddess of the Theban necropolis.
