Merghindeal

Merghindeal ( marls German, Hungarian Morgonda ) is a village in Transylvania, Romania.

Location

The community Merghindeal lies in the northeast of Sibiu County, about sixty kilometers northeast of the county town of Sibiu (Hermannstadt) and eight kilometers outside of Harbach valley, 6.7 kilometers east of Agnita ( Agnetheln ). In the Mergelner cadastral Dealu Frumos ( Schönberg) to the geographical center of Romania is in its present state borders.

History

The settlement was first mentioned in 1336 as Mergendhal documented. For many centuries established the Transylvanian Saxons, the majority in place. Marls belonged within the Transylvanian Administration to Schenker chair.

In 1786 a total of 817 residents were counted. Due to the wave of emigration in the early 1990s, the number of German residents has dropped by 2003 to 19.

Attractions

  • The fortified church from the late 13th century was in 1600 during the invasion of Transylvania by the soldiery of the Wallachian voivode Michael the Brave ( Michael the Brave ) devastated. 1634, the church was repaired; further renovations were made in 1732, 1773 and 1803. The wooden walkway was demolished in the 19th century, just as the late 19th century the north-east and north-west tower were demolished. 1960 was part of the eastern boundary walls, repairing her 1962 North West part. The enclosure forms an irregular quadrilateral with two obtained from the original four corner towers.
