Mérida UD

Mérida Unión Deportiva is a Spanish football club from the city of Mérida. The club currently plays in Tercera División of ( group XIV).

History

The club was founded in 1912 under the name Sportiva Emeritense. 1921 joined the club, after the merger of the two clubs Los Catalanes (English: the Catalans ) and MZA, his name in Emérita. 1931/32 the club won the first regional title. After the Spanish Civil War, the club reached the Tercera División for the first time in 1966 and changed the name again in Mérida and Industrial, 1985, in Mérida CP (Club Polideportivo Mérida ). Between 1991 and 2000 the club finally experienced the most successful period, in that era, the club took part twice in La Liga ( 1995/96, 1997/98) and spent seven years in the Segunda División. 2000 CP Mérida dissolved because of economic problems, and the amateur side of the club, renamed Mérida UD, took over the operation of gambling. After the club came in the 2008 /09 season with the salaries of the players in residue, a demotion to the fourth league ( Tercera División ) was enacted.
