Merinolandschaf

The Merino sheep ( or Württemberg ) belongs to the breed of Merino sheep. It accounts for 30% of the sheep population, the most commonly grown Nutzschaf Germany.

History

The first Merino sheep originate from the Berbers in North Africa and arrived in the 12th century to Spain. Starting point for the breeding of merino sheep in Germany was walking capable of importing, Spanish fine- wool sheep named Ovejas merino in 1765 to Germany ( Saxony). There they were, due to their advantageous properties are crossed with some country sheep breeds. And there arose primarily three races:

  • Merinolandschaf
  • Merino long wool sheep
  • Merino meat sheep

Firstly, the Merino sheep wool Suppliers are popular because of their fine and fast growing wool. On the other hand, they are very durable and have a high weight gain in high breeding rate, which allows an economical lamb production.

Breeding goal

Breeding goal is to breed, then as now a possible durable, all-terrain and fertile wool and meat sheep.

The Wolleistung is the Bock 6.5 to 7.5 Kilogramm greasy wool, when ewe are between 4.0 and 4.5 kilograms. The wool fineness is 26-28 microns. The yield is about 50%.

The growth performance is trestles 130-160 kilograms and reaches ewes from 70 to 100 kg. The daily increase is from 400 to 450 grams and the dressing percentage at 50 %.
