Meriwether County, Georgia

The Meriwether County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Greenville, named after General Nathaniel Greene. In the 2000 census, the county had 22,534 inhabitants and a population density of 17 inhabitants per square kilometer.

Geography

The County is located in northwest Georgia, about 40 km from the border with Alabama and has an area of ​​1309 square kilometers, of which five square kilometers of water surface, and borders clockwise to the following counties: Spalding County, Pike County, Upson County, Talbot County, Harris County, Troup County and Coweta County.

History

Meriwether County was formed on December 14, 1827 as 73 County in Georgia. It was named after David Meriwether, a general in the Revolutionary War and congressman from Georgia.
