Merlion

The Merlion is the symbol of the Southeast Asian metropolis of Singapore. The term Merlion is an invented word, from the words Mermaid ( Mermaid ) and composed lion (lion).

He is a legendary figure and hybrid of lion and fish and the patron saint of the city. The lion head symbolizes strength and fearlessness of the fish body from the origin and affinity with the sea.

The figure of the Merlion was designed by Fraser Brunner in 1964 on behalf of the Tourism Commission of Singapore as a logo for the city and alludes to the legend the city was founded on. The original statue now stands at the mouth of the Singapore River, a 37 m high, walk simulation is one of the attractions on the island of Sentosa Leisure.

On 28 February 2009, the original statue was damaged by a lightning strike at about 4:30 clock in the morning on the head as well as by falling parts at the base. The repair work started immediately and have now been completed.
