Merpins

Merpins is a commune with 988 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Charente in the Poitou -Charentes; it belongs to the district of the canton of cognac and cognac -Sud.

Attractions

  • Ruins of the Abbey of La Frenade, 1140 founded by Citeaux with the help of the Lords of Cognac, during the Huguenot wars destroyed. There are only the south wall of the nave (12th century) and the chapter house ( 16th century ) was obtained.
  • Ruins of the castle dating from around 850, destroyed in 1387
