Merseburg-Querfurt

The district Merseburg - Querfurt was a district in the south of Saxony- Anhalt. On 1 July 2007 it was merged with the Saalkreis the new Saalekreis in the context of the district reform in Saxony- Anhalt.

Neighboring districts were in the north of the district Mansfeld and the hall circuit and the district-free city of Halle ( Saale), to the east of the Saxon administrative district Leipziger Land, in the south of the counties of White Rock and the Burgenland district, in the southwest, the Thuringian Kyffhauserkreis and west of the county Sangerhausen.

Geography

Through the eastern district area flowed the Saale, the White Elster and the billet. The Saale- Elster- billet - Aue was an important resting and breeding area for endangered bird species.
