Mertesheim

Mertesheim is a municipality in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Bad Durkheim. It is located in the northwest of the European Metropolitan Region Rhine -Neckar and belongs to the municipality of green urban-rural.

History

In the year 771 Meldrisheim was first mentioned. Early practiced the wealthy in green city and Battenberg, Lorraine Abbey Glandern the right of patronage of the church still standing from (formerly St. Martin, St. Valentin). The often mentioned annual number 836 however, is based on a forged document. 1212 Bishop confirmed Luitpold von Worms documented that the abbot of St. Martin could use the slope of the churches in Green City and Mertesheim for the benefit of his monastery to Glandern.

Until 1969, the village belonged to the ( extinct ) District Frankenthal.

Religion

In 2007, 43.5 percent of the population Catholic, 35.3 percent Protestant. The other belonged to a different religion or no religious affiliation were.

Parish council

The local council in Mertesheim consists of eight council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Since 2007, Tony Schuck mayor of Mertesheim. He replaced Alfred Grasmück (SPD).

Coat of arms

The blazon of the arms is: " In red on green Dreienberg a border resist sighted silver stag with a golden re- cross instead of the antlers ."

It was approved in 1926 by the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior and is based on a seal dating from the 16th century.

Economy and infrastructure

Mertesheim is located on the Eistalbahn (Green City Ramsen ) and is served by regional trains in regular intervals. The public transport system is integrated into the transport association Rhein- Neckar; accordance with its own community tariffs.
