Mervent
Mervent is a commune with 1060 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Vendée in the Pays de la Loire; it belongs to the district Fontenay -le- Comte and the canton of Saint- Hilaire -des- Loges.
History
Mervent located on the heights of a forested massif at the mouth of the River Mère in the Vendée; already existed in the 6th century BC, a fortified settlement here, the only known in the West of France of that time. First excavations took place in spring 2008.
