Méry-sur-Oise

Méry -sur -Oise is a commune in the department of Val- d'Oise the region Ile- de -France in the valley of the Oise. It has an area of ​​1117 acres and 9290 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011). The place has a small port on the banks of the Oise and is known for its castle.

Sources of income are based in former quarries mushroom cultivation, tree and flower-growing and vegetable cultivation. Worth mentioning is an ultra modern plant for water treatment.

History

Méry -sur -Oise was first mentioned as Madriacus in a charter dating from the 9th century in connection with the friars of Saint -Denis, later belonged to Henry de Milly and came in 1357 by purchase into the possession of King Charles the wise adviser Pierre d' Orgemont. His descendants owned the castle and domain until 1975.

Attractions

The castle Méry -sur -Oise (16th century, rebuilt in the 17th/18th. Century) was built at the site of the former priory of the abbey of Saint- Denis and has a large French garden.

The Church of St. Denis ( 15-16. Century) retains a beautiful stone baptismal font from the 13th century.

Interesting is also the housed in the Castle " Musée de l' Eau ".
