Geographical location

Merzkirchen is on the Saargau, about seven kilometers east of the border with Luxembourg and six kilometers southwest of Saar castle at the meeting point of national road 132 (after Saar castle ) and State Road 134 (after Wincheringen / Federal Road 419).

History

On July 18, 1946 a total of 81 municipalities in the counties registers and Saar castle were assigned to the Saarland by the French military government, which no longer was under the Allied Control Council at the time. These included the six of his time independent communities on the present territory of the Municipality Merzkirchen. Village church of St. Martin
