Meskalamdug

Meskalamdug was a king of the Sumerian city-state of Ur ( archaeological time step: Ed IIIa).

He lived about 2600-2500 BC and is counted in the 1st dynasty. His tomb can be found as the King Akalamdug and Queen puabi in the royal tombs of Ur, it has the number 1054. His son Mesanepada is the first king of Ur, who is mentioned in the so-called Sumerian King List, a surviving cuneiform document.

Archeology

The so-called grave of meskalamdug was excavated by Sir Leonard Woolley 1927-28. It was one of the richest royal tombs of Ur. There was also the Golden Helmet of King meskalamdug, which today is located in the Iraq Museum. The body of the king was in a magnificent wooden coffin.
