Meskhenet

Mesechenet (formerly Meschenet ) is an ancient Egyptian goddess of birth and death.

Importance

As a goddess of childbirth, it monitors not only the birth of a child, but also determines its fate already. As goddess of death she helps with the gods Schai and Renenutet to rebirth, so it is also shown in the judgment of the dead. It occurs as birth brick on getting into a merger with one of the goddesses of birth:

• Mesechenet - weret: Tefnut was the first birth brick
• Mesechenet - aachet: groove as a second birth brick
• Mesechenet - neferet: Isis as the third birth brick
• Mesechenet - menchet: Nephthys as the fourth birth brick

Representation

Shown she is as a woman figure with the uterus of a cow on her head, but mostly as a Brick (birth brick) with a female head on the front page.
