BW

Operational in 2010 (planned)

The Mesochora Reservoir ( Greek Techniti Limni Mesochoras Τεχνητή Λίμνη Μεσοχώρας ) is a large dam in Greece. It was built between 1996 and 2001, but not yet in operation because of difficulties in the approval. The commissioning of the hydropower plant had been planned for 2010, has not previously been made (as of March 2011).

The dam is named after the nearby town Mesochora.

The dam is a rockfill dam with a concrete seal on the water side. The reservoir has a volume of 625 million cubic meters. The provision of 228 million m³ probably refers to the usable space. The hydroelectric power plant, which is operated by the DEI, has two Francis turbines with an output of 2 x 81 MW. They were delivered by Koncar from Croatia.

The dam is part of the hydropower development of the Achelous, one of the largest rivers in Greece. Other components are the Sykea Dam with a 17.4 km long transfer to Thessaloniki Mouzaki dam with a 135 m high dam and the dam Pyli with a 90 m high dam.
