Mesohyl

With mesohyl refers to a specialized form of extracellular matrix in sponges ( Porifera ).

Sponges are metazoans, ie multicellular animals. However, since their cells are loosely organized combinations and thus do not represent true tissue they are made to the Parazoa. They do not have members in contrast to the fabric animals. Specialized cells ( Sklerocyten and Collencyten ) provide skeletal needles ( sclerites, spicules called ) and a collagen- like protein ( spongin ) ago, which is strongly linked in mesohyl. In the dehydration of sponges and after the death of the animals, the spongin matrix is preserved and can in some types of horn sponges ( Dictyoceratida ) are commercially used as a bath sponge.
