Mesquita

Mesquita is a municipality in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro. By 1999, Mesquita was part of Nova Iguaçu. In 2008 lived in Mesquita 187 949 inhabitants.
Geography
Mesquita has an area of 34.77 km ² and belongs to the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro. In the field of Municipalities is a volcanic crater and a rest of the Mata Atlântica.
The neighboring municipios are Belford Roxo, Nilópolis, Nova Iguaçu, Rio de Janeiro and São João de Meriti.
History
Mesquita was achieved independence after a long legal battle on 25 September 1999. Prior to the present-day municipality was formed a district of Nova Iguaçu.
