Messancy ( German Boucherie ) is a Belgian municipality in the district of Arlon Luxembourg Province.

The church today Messancy was formed in the wake of the Belgian municipality reform 1 January 1977 from the 5 municipalities Messancy, Habergy, Hondelange, Sélange and Wolkrange (now districts of the new community). The municipality consists of the following smaller villages:

History

Messancy was first mentioned in 1060 as Marseium, other districts: Buvange as Buffigen, Differt as Differt ( 1269 ), Guelf as Guldorf ( 1253 ), Habergy as Heverdingen (1480 ), Hondelange as Hondlange (1331 ), Longeau as Longawa ( 707) Sélange as Seylongen ( 1309), Wolkrange as Wolkrange (1270 ).

The territory belonged to the annexation by France (1 October 1795), the medieval German Reich (county or Duchy of Luxembourg), then to the newly formed Department of French Forêts. After the Congress of Vienna it was in 1815 awarded the newly established Kingdom of the United Netherlands. Since the Belgian Revolution in 1830 the municipality belongs to the Kingdom of Belgium.
