Messius Phoebus Severus

Messius Phoebus Severus ( † before 490) was a Roman senator and patrician in the 5th century AD

Severus was born in Rome and was a pagan. He must have lived a long time in Alexandria and there busy with philosophy. Between 467 and 469 he followed Anthemius in the hope that the new emperor will return the kingdom to its heyday, to Rome. In Rome, he held both the consulate and the city prefecture ( 470). This year Severus restored also a part of the Colosseum. In addition, Anthemius appointed him Patricius. After the fall of Anthemius 472 Severus returned embittered back to Alexandria, where he died before 490.
