Messnerin

The Messnerin is a mountain in the high Schwab area in Styria. With its height of 1835 m above sea level. A. it forms together with the westerly Pribitz (1579 m above sea level. A. ) the northern end of the valley of the Lamingtals about Tragöss.

Location

The Messnerin is from the high Schwab plateau ( Häuselalm, 1,526 m above sea level. A. ) on the north by the Scheideck saddle ( 1215 m above sea level. A. ) clearly separated and falls in the northeast with a steep craggy and Laces edge in the Josertal from. To the west, it fails with a 700 -meter-high wall into the gorge, which is the deepest cut to the neighboring Pribitz. The highly visible even from Tragöss west ridge shows a striking rock window.

Routes to the summit

The Messnerin can be achieved not difficult, but tedious of Tragöss over the southern flank or through the sharing ditch and the Pillsteinalm from the east. From Scheideck saddle to the north a unmarked hunting trail leads to the summit.

About the western ridge and through the west wall lead several long climbs.

The brittle northwest ridge in front stands the pillar-like tower of the mountain headland was lifted by some self- climbing routes to the rank of an independent summit.
