Metajna

Metajna is a village on the island of Pag, located between Rijeka and Zadar in the Croatian Adriatic. The village has 215 inhabitants and belongs to Lika- Senj. The people of the village live from fishing, sheep farming, viticulture and since the 80's more and more on tourism.

To place the beach Ručica heard Metajna, which is characterized by its sheltered location in a nearby opposite the town of Pag bay.

On June 25, 1941, the fascist Ustasha regime established in the concentration camp Metajna Metajna in which thousands of Jews, Serbs and dissident Croats were killed. Later in the nearby book Slana came a second bearing - for women and children - to the concentration camp Slana. The victims were often killed brutally and then thrown into pits or into the sea. The two camps were closed after the end of August 1941, the island was handed over to Italian forces. The survivors were mostly transported to the Croatian concentration camp Jasenovac concentration camp.
