Metal aquo complex

Aqua complexes (older name: aquo complexes ) are hydrated metal ions with a fixed number of water molecules. Therefore, there occurs a coordinate bond between the cations and the water molecules. It is interesting in this regard that the occurrence of the aqua complexes of the ligand field stabilization energy affects the energy of hydration, which means that instead of the expected linear increase of the enthalpy of hydration with the atomic number a more complicated pattern is observed.
