Metal Church

Metal Church is an American metal band from Seattle. It was founded in 1981 by Kurdt Vanderhoof under the name Shrapnel and published between 1984 and her second resolution in July 2009, nine studio albums.

At the time of its inception, the subgenre thrash metal and speed metal were still in their development. Metal Church impressed with this material.

History

1980

Kurdt Vanderhoof formed the band along with Kirk Arrington, Mike Murphy, Duke Erickson and Craig Wells, whom he knew from high school days. First, the band appeared as a cover band and started only gradually, to write her own songs. Instead Kirk Arrington first was another friend Vanderhoofs - Lars Ulrich - provided as a drummer. However, just at the time of the founding of this shrapnel moved to Los Angeles. In 1983, the band was renamed after Vanderhoofs apartment in San Francisco in " Metal Church ", in which everything turned for him and his friends to Heavy Metal. In 1984 the debut album, which was well received and the band also brought commercial success. With the release of The Dark Metal Church were mentioned in the same breath as Metallica, with which they went on a great tour. The band split up in this time of David Wayne, since this could not moderate his alcohol problems. With the new singer Mike Howe (formerly in Heretic ) and the album Blessing in Disguise to Metal Church in 1989 was at the height of her career.

1990

In The Human Factor, Mike Howe showed 1991 as fully integrated into the band. After this album was released, Kurdt Vanderhoof drove his solo career ahead strengthened, but without Metal Church give up entirely. Along with the loss of importance of the entire genre in the 90s, which, however, led the band broke up in 1993 after the release of Hanging in the Balance. The individual musicians spent the following years with their solo projects.

Reunion

Metal Church also came together again, as it went up again slightly with the heavy metal. The first sign of life were the live album Live, which includes only a concert from the eighties. It was followed in 1999 Master Peace, which met with split reviews. In 2004, Ronny Munroe, Jay Reynolds and Steve Unger to the band. Side projects Vanderhoofs delayed to 2004, the release of the album The Weight of the World.

2005 Kirk Arrington had the band for health reasons to leave and was replaced by Jeff Plate. David Wayne died on 10 May of the same year after a car accident.

On 21 February 2008, the band announced that guitarist Jay Reynolds had left the band for personal reasons. His successor was Rick Van Zandt, who has played with Ronny Munroe already.

In July 2009 the band announced on its website that it has dissolved, but will still play one last concert at Rocklahoma. The remaining concerts for 2009 were canceled. The reason for the separation, among others, the bankruptcy of their label SPV was called.

In October 2012 it came to the second reunion. In October 2013, the band released their album Generation Nothing.
