Métal Hurlant

Métal hurlant was a decisive French comic magazine, published in 1975-1987 and 2002-2006 in the publishing Les Associés Humanoïdes, and of which there was international sister publications, including in Germany. The name literally as " screeching metal " is the French translation of " Heavy Metal".

Background

Métal hurlant appeared for the first time in January 1975, was quite modest with 68 pages, 16 color, and a quarterly publication, however, developed because of the idiosyncratic style soon became a sensation in the market of graphic narrative. Since the tenth edition in October 1976, the magazine was published monthly. In Germany it was known under the name of heavy metal, in England and the USA under Heavy Metal, in Spain and the Netherlands in the local language. The artist Jean Giraud ( Moebius ) and Philippe Druillet, who were among the founders, Enki Bilal, Philippe Caza, and the U.S. comic book artist Richard Corben obtained by global awareness.
