Metalab

The Metalab founded in 2006, is a hackerspace in Vienna, a jointly -operated space for people interested in science, technology and digital art. The premises are located in the Town Hall Road 6 near the Vienna City Hall. As an association for the promotion of research and education, social and technical innovations - Metalab the Metalab provides a platform for a range of groups and organizations and provides a floor space of 220m ². The sponsoring organization is funded by membership fees of about 140 members, sponsorship and public benefits of the City of Vienna and the Federal Ministry for Health, Family and Youth.

Members and guests are among other hardware workshop, an electronics laboratory and space for collaborative collaborations available. The Metalab was the home of the first European -inspired YCombinator Startup Accelerators, YEurope and the starting point for several Austrian start-ups such as the Tumblelog Soup.io and the online food ordering service Mjam. In addition, meetings and events of interest take place almost daily and the Metalab was the venue for several hundred lectures which belong to the subject area of Hackerspaces.

The International Archives Hackerspaces.org started by Metalab - founders and the Metalab is often cited as an inspiration and starting point for the international hackerspace movement.
