Metaneira (hetaera)

Metaneira was active in Corinth and Athens Greek courtesan. Metaneira was known for her beauty and her cleverness. As a child she was bought by Nikarete from Corinth. From this she was raised as an alleged daughter, and is designed to courtesan. Thus it was one of the " sisters " of the Neaira. To her lover were Isocrates and Lysias. Lysias it was that made her initiated into the mysteries of Eleusis. Love letters from him to Metaneira are likely spurious.
