Metasoma

The term refers to Metasoma at waist wasps ( Apocrita ), so the Hymenoptera wasp waist, the severed portion from the second segment of the abdomen ( tummy). The metasoma connects to the mesosoma.

In some species the first segment of Metasomas as Stielchenglied ( petiole ) is formed ( for example, some grave wasps ), or even the first two segments ( in red ants ). The rest of the abdomen that starts depending on the type of insect with the second, third or fourth abdominal segment is called the gaster.

In scorpions ( Scorpiones ) is called the metasoma of the "tail" ( cauda ), ie the adjoining the mesosoma backward segments including the poison sting.
