Meteorological Service of New Zealand Limited

The Meteorological Service of New Zealand, under the brand name ( MetService ) on the market, is a state-owned company in New Zealand, based in Wellington. The company creates weather forecasts and provides meteorological data for different purposes for customers at home and abroad.

History

Already back in the 1840s was started in New Zealand with weather observations, but a weather service was only from it, when shipwrecks piled in front of New Zealand's shores. The government established the first weather service in 1861 and ordered him first to the Marine Department.

On September 1, 1926, the service the newly established Department of Scientific and Industrial Research ( DSIR ) has been assigned and began to call itself from New Zealand Meteorological Service.
