Methodist Church of Great Britain

The Methodist Church of Great Britain is a Methodist church in England, Scotland and Wales

The church was built in 1932 by the merger of the original Connexion, the Primitive Methodists and the ( British ) United Methodist Church and currently has about 330,000 members in 6,100 congregations. The ordination of women is possible in the Methodist Church of Great Britain.

The blessing of same-sex couples was discussed and rejected by the Conference in 2006. Methodist Church members, however, it is permitted to enter into a registered partnership.

A plan of merger with the Church of England failed on a few votes in 1972 in the Anglican General Synod. In recent years the two churches, however, have occasionally worked closely and developed joint arrangements that remain below the threshold of full Church Union.
