Methuselah

Methuselah (or Methuselah, Hebrew " javelin thrower " ) is in the Old Testament (Gen 5.21 to 27 EU), a forefather before the Flood, son of Enoch and the grandfather of Noah (Noah ).

At the age of 187 years, he became the father of Lamech, after which he lived for 782 years ("... and begat sons and daughters "). Methuselah was so according to the Bible record 969 years old and is the oldest mentioned in the Bible man at all. The figures mentioned here can be found in the Hebrew Bible. Both the Masoretic text and the Greek Septuagint and the derived Eastern Church Christian Bibles call a total age of 969 years. Deviating from the Samaritanus only comes to 720 years of life Methuselah.

If one takes literally the age of Methuselah and his descendants Lamech according to Hebrew text and compares them to the Life-history of Noah and the Flood, Methuselah is just before or at the Flood died ( 782 years after Lamech's birth is 600 years after Noah's birth and the year the Flood ).

Methuselah Methuselah is a descendant of the set and not to be confused with the mentioned in Gen. 4.18 EU Methushael, a descendant of Cain, although both have a son named Lamech testified, and both names in the Septuagint as Methuselah to play ( μαθουσαλα ).
