Metofluthrin is a chemical compound from the group of pyrethroids. It consists of a total of eight different isomers, the RTZ isomer with more than 75 % constitute the majority.

Production and representation

Metofluthrin can be obtained by reacting 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro -4- methoxymethylbenzylalkohol and Norchrysanthemsäurederivat.

Properties

Metofluthrin is a yellowish liquid, which is practically insoluble in water. It is as metofluthrin a unspezifierte mixture of eight isomers (2,3,5,6-tetrafluor-4-(methoxymethyl)benzyl-(EZ)-(1RS,3RS;1SR,3SR)-2,2-dimethyl-3-prop-1-enylcyclopropanecarboxylat) referred to, the technical product contains a specific Isomerprofil wherein the RTZ isomer ( 2,3,5,6- tetrafluoro- 4-( methoxymethyl) benzyl (1R, 3R ) -2,2- dimethyl-3- [ (Z ) -prop- 1-enyl ] cyclopropanecarboxylat ) * with more than 75 % has the largest share.

Use

Metofluthrin is used as an insecticide. For the Neuwirkstoff Sumitomo Chemical ( UK) applied for the end of 2005, the inclusion in Annex I of the European Biocidal Products Directive. On 4 November 2010 the European Commission decided to open metofluthrin in the list of authorized biocidal active substances. It is intended for domestic use. The slow evaporation means of an electric evaporator mosquitoes to be controlled indoors. It acts as a contact poison, which blocks voltage-dependent sodium channels in the nerve membranes so that they can not be closed from the open state.

Safety

Metofluthrin has neurotoxic potential and causes tremors in rats and dogs, but not in mice or rabbits.
