METRA is a mass transit system in the Chicagoland area. With eleven lines and over 200 stations, the METRA system forms the backbone of the commuter town traffic from the suburbs in the Chicagoland area in the city center and back. The circulating almost exclusively in the inner city of Chicago 'L' serves to further development. The official name of METRA 's Northeast Illinois Regional Commuter Railroad Corporation.
History
The current system was created with the RTA amendatory Act in 1983. Thus the transport systems were unified, but, on the same divided according to the system used in three groups. In addition to the Chicago Transit Authority, which operates the Chicago ' L' and the bus company PACE, was born as the Regional Transportation Authority ( Illinois), the current operator of the METRA system.
Metra operates all lines except the BNSF line and the lines of the Union Pacific with their own vehicles. These are driven by the BNSF Railway and Union Pacific Railroad on behalf of Metra. With an appropriate logo that railway companies should be noted on the affected cars of this fact.
