Trichlorfon is one of the phosphonates and is used as a pesticide.

History

Trichlorfon is used extensively since the 1950s. 1989 lost the Kuwaiti container ship " Danah " stormy seas and eight filled with trichlorfon container in the Elbe estuary.

Chemical Properties

Trichlorfon exists in two enantiomeric forms [(R ) - and ( S)- trichlorfon ] and the racemate [ 1:1 mixture of (R) - and ( S)-form ].

Use

Trichlorfon is used as an insecticide in agriculture, veterinary medicine and in the home. It is also used as a raw material in the chemical industry use.

Trichlorfon is approved in Switzerland for example, against the grape berry moth, cutworms and cabbage fly. In Germany and Austria is not approved as a pesticide active ingredient.

Safety

Trichlorfon is a contact and stomach poison. Like all the phosphoric acid ester is trichlorfon, an inhibitor of cholinesterases acetylcholinesterase ( AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase ( BuChE ) and thus has a neurotoxic. Upon decomposition, the still more toxic dichlorvos produced.
