Metrocable (Caracas)

Metrocable Caracas is one integrated into the network of the Caracas Metro Cable Car, which is to ensure that the inhabitants of the mountainous districts located in the city district of Caracas can be transported to the city center quickly and safely, and acts as a feeder line to the metro.

History

According to the proposal from city planners, the Municipality of Caracas, build a network of cable cars, which should be enough as a light rail system in the poorest areas of the capital began, similar to the cable car in Medellin (Colombia ), and laid to the foundation stone on 29 November 2006.

On 20 April 2007 the construction of the first line that runs from the municipality of San Agustín to the station Parque Central, relating there to the metro network started. Responsible for the construction of the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Austrian company Doppelmayr and the Brazilian company Odebrecht.

In December 2009, Caracas Metro Cable entered the test phase, and in January 2010, the first users of the system were carried. These were to community leaders who traveled from station to station Hornos de Cal Parque Central.

On January 20, 2010, finally, the official inauguration took place.

Currently, studies are underway to Cable Car line in El Valle, which shall consist of two sections, one for El Valle station and a station La Bandera.

It is also planned to build the construction of the subway line Guarenas - Guatire another cable car line, which will connect the station with the Caucagüita industrial area Mariche, which is southeast of the municipality of Sucre located.

Units

The cabins are built of aluminum and work with a vehicle electric system. Each cabin has interior lighting, a communication system and a maximum capacity of eight people. The gondolas run at regular intervals of 27 seconds, which allows the transport of 15000-20000 people per day. The cabins were manufactured by CWA and adapted by Doppelmayr.
